Understanding Green Nail DiscolorationUpdated 5 months ago

Green nail discoloration, often called 'greenies,' can occur when bacteria make a home between your natural nail and your press-on. Not to worry, though! Here’s everything you need to know to keep your nails both glam and healthy.

Nails can turn green after wearing press-ons due to a common bacterial infection caused by Pseudomonas aeruginosa. This bacterium thrives in moist environments and can grow between the natural nail and the press-on nail. Here’s how it happens:

  1. Moisture Trapped: When moisture gets trapped between the natural nail and the press-on nail, it creates an ideal environment for bacteria to grow.
  2. Bacterial Growth: Pseudomonas aeruginosa bacteria can increase in this moist, enclosed space, leading to a green discoloration of the nail.
  3. Non-Serious Infection: While it can look alarming, this type of infection is generally not serious and can be treated at home.
What to Do:
  • Soak your nails in a solution of water and salt or warm water and vinegar. This helps clear up the discoloration.
  • Ensure your nails are completely dry before applying press-ons in the future to prevent recurrence.
It’s important to note that this issue is not related to the quality of the press-on nails or the adhesive, both of which are safe to use.

At Glamnetic, your well-being is paramount to us. By understanding the root cause of green nail discoloration and adopting appropriate preventive measures during the application, you can enjoy the beauty and convenience of press-on nails without compromising on safety.
